Year 10s Continue to Make Big Improvements
The Year 10 boys started out the day feeling let down by certain members of the squad who had refused to play for one reason or another. This left the once strong 20 man squad depleted and the boys were left struggling to field a team. Fortunately Daanyaal Khan and Year 9 captain Jack Tolhurst stepped in at the last minute so we were able to field 15 players.
On a cold and windy day at Misbourne, the Ramsay boys were up against it straight from the off. With only having 15 players, there were no substitutes to call on, so any injuries or knocks just had to be put up with. The first half was a closely faught contest with much of the play coming from the forwards. Captain Ed Hucker along with Jake and Ryan Cole had an outstanding half using their experience to take control. Some strong work from Liam John helped Ramsay go in at half time one try to the good courtesy of an Ed Hucker try.
The second half saw Ramsay improve massively on their first half performance. Jordan Burnard fielded the ball well at full back and used his kicking game to gain Ramsay some good field position. Travis Henry and Sam Hyde ran very strongly out wide and Daniel Edwards, Jake Forbes and Charlie Mansfield became much more involved in the game. Due to the forwards hard work, Jake Cole was able to provide Hyde with the ball who looked certain to score. The strong Misbourne defense held him out, only for Henry to think on his feet, pick the ball quickly, and dive over the line for Ramsays second of the game. John converted and took the score to 0-12.
Next came the try of the game when the ball was fed between three sets of hands before it reached John. John stepped two players before dummying to the supporting Henry to dive over for Ramsays third try of the game. John converted his own try taking his tally for the game to 9 points and giving Ramsay a lead of 0-19. There was jus enough time for captain Hucker to get his second of the game after some excellent work from the line out. He raced over from 15 metres out to score in the corner. This left John with too much to do with the conversion so the game finished at 0-24.
This was a fantastic effort from the Ramsay side and a big thank you must go out to Jack Tolhurst who played for the year above and had a great game. Burnard, Henry, Edwards, Hucker and John all suffered injuries durng the game but played on giving their all. A great team performance and all did enought o warrant a place in the starting line up against Princes Risborough next Wednesday.
